Happy Valentine’s Day!

A couple days ago, we went to my sister’s 2nd grade class to do my presentation on Asia.  I traveled there a few years ago, and so now I go into her class each year and show them some of my souvenirs and we play Asia Bingo with pictures reflecting some of the things about Asia.  It is always a lot of fun.  This year, Evelyn came with me and she was great.  She loved playing bingo, and especially loved eating the noodles with chopsticks after.

giving away a valentine

Evelyn is fascinated with the idea of giving a valentine card away.  She goes to a preschool class and this is what she will be giving to her little friends.  I printed out the saying on the computer, attached cardstock to a chipboard heart and attached the individual hot cocoa packet to that.  (hot cocoa is her favorite!)

Valentine Décor is up

I have seen this idea all over pinterest and so Imagine my thrill when I came across these mailboxes {brand-new} in the salvation army for 50 cents each.  I added some vinyl (of course!) and created a little mailbox for each of us to leave love notes.

This burlap love banner was so simple to create.  I simply cut out the triangles (burlap is a mess to work with so be prepared!), then I cut out the letters on my cricut but didn’t use the letter…I used the outline part of it – you know, the part you throw away.  It was my stencil, then I used acrylic paint to stencil the shape or letter onto each triangle.  I stapled the burlap to jute and added some pieces of ribbon between each triangle. Valentine’s Day Decor

I admit that my winter is still out, but I have been working on valentine décor since the day after Christmas!  I’ll probably start putting valentine stuff out next week today – changed my mind!  I try to mix it up with my SNOW theme for January & February.  Anyway…here are some designs this year.

The Countdown to Kisses idea was taken from Infarrantly Creative. I’m so excited to use it this year.  She has the tutorial on there to learn how you can make one too!P1040011 - CopyP1040012 - CopyP1040013P1040016 - CopyP1040017P1040019P1040025

What the world needs now, is LOVE sweet love!

Here's my last project until after the big LOVE day next weekend. The fun thing about this project, is it's not vinyl, but a combo of paint and stain to make the desired effect.
I applied a coat of cream paint on a ragged piece of wood -- very rustic-- then, once dry, I put on vinyl and stained over the entire piece of wood, vinyl and all. I then peeled off the vinyl and ta-da....finished project! So easy and a really fun look.
Look closely, you can see it's not vinyl, but paint. I think I'll try this again, but with colored paint instead of stain! Hmmm, what can I do GREEN for st. paddy's day!?!?

The month of LOVE!

I saw this idea online and decided to try it. The blocks were all painted red, then a pink layer on one, and white on the other. I then sanded them down so the red showed through. The red block i smeared white paint across it. I made a set for a good friend and have the other sitting in my house.

Wood block with wooden heart $8 each
Multi-word blocks (these were a special order I was sending out the door). Each set spells about 17 different words. $20 big set $15 small. These are my most popular items and they come in any color combo.
This was a new medium for me...molding (and it curves in). It was fun to see how it turned out. I like how the stain shows through on the ridges. $12. It can say anything.

What a fun weekend!

We had such a blast this weekend as a family. We were going to go sledding on Monday because Justin had the day off for the holiday, but we learned it would rain, and so we went on Saturday. There is a little hill by our house and by the end, Evie was loving it so much that she was willing to go down on her own! We also have a neighbor who has a turkey, and I loved this picture of Evie & Justin looking at it on their way to the hill to sled.

V is for Valentine block. This 8x6.5" block is $10. color: soft pink with red showing through.
Love one another. This 8x6.5" block is $10. color red. (any size or color can be made-to-order!)

Valentine's day 2010

We had a really fun Valentine's day. Justin brought home flowers for me on Friday, and then on Saturday, we got a babysitter and went to see a movie. It has been since evelyn was born that we have been to the theater together. We went to "Blindside". It was fantastic! Then, we went to outback steakhouse. Really yummy! Justin called ahead and had our name on the wait list, so we only waited about 20 minutes when everyone else had to wait 90! What a smart husband I have! On Sunday, we melted some chocolate and had fruit and other dipping things like pretzels and we took off evie's shirt so that she could dip her own fruit. Before the chocolate came out, she picked up every strawberry and took a bite out of each one. They were pretty sour (early in the season), but she liked them. She also ate the pineapple too.
She didn't make too big of a mess...just on her mouth. Justin decided to dip a blob of peanut butter. He made his own recess's peanut butter cup!

so cute! yum!!!

Sending Valentine's

This was Evelyn's Valentine this year. It said: Hey Valentine, Let's HANG out! Love, Evelyn. It is a plastic zipper bag attached by a clothespin to a chipboard heart. Then, a picture of her topped it off!

Projects I've been working on

This is an acrylic picture frame that I glued together and then cut a heart with my cricut machine. I punched holes through both sides with my crop-a-dile and wrapped a wire through the holes (you can't see the wire very well), and then tied ribbon. Fill will candy and give away! This chore chart I made for Evelyn to use in a year or so. I made it for my YW lesson today. It was called: "Sharing work in the home". It's a magnetic board and I cut the stars with my cricut and the red lines are vinyl. I mod podged wrapping paper onto the board for the base.

I hope none of the cousins are looking!!! This is their valentine's day card from Evelyn. I glued paper onto a chipboard heart and put candy in a clear bag and then glued paper onto a clothespin, tied a bow and then added Evie's picture that says: Hey Valentine, Let's HANG out! love, Evelyn.

Valentine's Decor is up!

Winter decor is down & Heart-day stuff is up. This is my newest piece. I made this burlap banner using my cricut machine to cut the stencil. It was really easy and a lot of fun! (I did have to staple the burlap onto the twine because it kept breaking through.) Burlap is the new vinyl! :) (Ya, right!)
