Natural History Museum

We had such a good time at the Natural History Museum.  Evie was still a little young, but it’s always good to get her familiar with museums.  If anything, she and Justin were adorable next to the dinosaurs!

While there, Evie got to go for a dinosaur dig.  Maybe we have a Paleontologist on our hands!IMG_0319IMG_0324

Evie’s cousin Jackie spent the night.  We went swimming and watched a movie and they made their own paper plate monster.  They really had a lot of fun with this and lasted longer then I thought a 3 & 4 year old would doing this project.

I placed bowls of items from my pantry and craft cupboard on the table, gave each girl a paint brush and a small bowl of mod podge and off they went!  Some plates turned out to be more monster-like than another, but overall, they loved creating their own art!

We had dry noodles, chow mein noodles, nibs, nilla wafers, m&M’s, chipboard pieces, marshmallows.  I just pulled from what I had on hand.  P2030002P2030003P2030004P2030005P2030009

Evie had so much fun creating her pictures, that when she ran out of paper plates, she picked up one of our dinner/salad plates (stoneware!) and started creating on that.  She had no idea that you don’t do that.  (hilarious) & I didn’t realize what she had done until she was this far along:  (I did find her more paper plates after that!)P2030014

Happy Valentine’s Day!

A couple days ago, we went to my sister’s 2nd grade class to do my presentation on Asia.  I traveled there a few years ago, and so now I go into her class each year and show them some of my souvenirs and we play Asia Bingo with pictures reflecting some of the things about Asia.  It is always a lot of fun.  This year, Evelyn came with me and she was great.  She loved playing bingo, and especially loved eating the noodles with chopsticks after.

I hope everyone has a fabulous valentine's day!

Our Family Adventure

It was a beautiful weekend and we decided to take a family adventure on the local transportation called TRAX.  We parked at the nearest stop by our house, and rode the train into downtown Salt Lake.  Evie loved every minute!   It was actually pretty fun.  You meet all sorts of people riding the train!  We got off at the Temple Square stop and wandered around the new city creek development.  It sure is beautiful.  What a fun activity!

water problem

A couple weeks ago on a Sunday morning, a neighbor knocked on our door to tell us that we had a broken water main leak.  It was freezing outside and Justin was already gone to his church meetings.  Finally, I got a hold of him and he came home and called the emergency city water people.  We went to church not sure what was happening.  It was on the edge of our driveway along the street so our house was safe, but we weren’t sure if it was our problem to fix or the city’s.  Knowing that this can cost thousands of dollars, we hoped it was the city’s problems!  After sacrament meeting Justin came home and the city was there fixing it.  They reported that the break was on their line (phew!!).  When Evie & I came home from church, this is what we came home to!

The guys were so nice.  One pulled up a piece of cardboard for Evie to stand on so that her shoes wouldn’t get muddy.  Poor guys having to work on a cold Sunday morning!  They did a great job.  P1220001

We had invited my sister’s over for dinner, and when the guys turned the water back on, the line broke again.  So instead of my sister’s coming to our house, we gathered up all the food and headed to their house!  I’m so glad they were flexible.  At least when we came home, it was all fixed, and the hole was filled up again.

giving away a valentine

Evelyn is fascinated with the idea of giving a valentine card away.  She goes to a preschool class and this is what she will be giving to her little friends.  I printed out the saying on the computer, attached cardstock to a chipboard heart and attached the individual hot cocoa packet to that.  (hot cocoa is her favorite!)
